The composer performs two recent pieces for piano and interactive computer processing: Retrospectacles and Shuffle. These works investigate reflections and transformation of sound; response and surprise to the performative gesture; playing the relationship between improviser and virtual narrative. Following early training as a classical pianist, Brown turned to inventing and building a personal electronic instrumentation. At first these were amplified acoustic devices then he went on to build analog circuits that modified their sounds, and custom-made computer systems that interactively transformed them. He is well known as a pioneer in internet/network-based performance, and as a writer and educator (Mills College). www.cbmuse.com/look
"Inventions- Chris Brown, composer, pianist and electronic musician from San Francisco will present his interactive rhythm studies for keyboard, software drum machine, and homeade samples. These Inventions are the resonsive rhythm environments for an improviser, percussive textures created from the sounds of everyday life that are pulsed and felxible, not frozen. "
"Compositions and improvisations for piano, sampled percussion, voice, and interactive electronics including "Snakecharmer," "Hall of Mirrors," "Obedience School," "3B or not 2B"... with Brown as gladiator in a digital battlefield."
