Chris Cochrane: Solo and Ensemble Concert

Friday, November 5, 20108:30 pm

Chris Cochrane is a guitarist who has been composing and playing music in NYC for 28 years. Cochrane has played with Eszter Balint, Zeena Parkins, John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Jim Pugliese and many others. He has composed music for John Jasperse, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Jennifer Monson, Circus Amok, and others.

Cochrane is known to weave knives and old guitar strings through his frets to create new dissonances, yet his voice is strong, plain and straightforward. His work led guitarist Marc Ribot to proclaim Cochrane, along with James Blood Ulmer, among his “favorite guitar players.” -OPTION Magazine-

Chris will be performing two sets:

Set 1: Solo guitar and voice and excerpts from “Them” (for Ishmael Houston-Jones) http://www.ps122.org/performances/them.html

Set 2: Ensemble with Annie Gosfield (sampler), Roger Kleier (guitar), Miguel Frasconi (glass and cracklebox) and Richard Carrick (piano)

Structured and not structured improvisation: dynamic, ear-splitting silence amidst the ever-shifting drones over loud conversation
