Half block party, half book bash, PAGE TURNER: The AAWW Food & Books Festival is an unforgettable all-day free public fair that will bring together more than 60 writers and performers and the best of Brooklyn culinary culture. Drop by Roulette and the YWCA in Downtown Brooklyn on Saturday, October 5, 2013, grab a cup of Pearl Milk Tea, chomp on a dumpling, and prepare to have your heart opened and your mind blown.

Yes, this will be the most ambitious event we’ve ever done. Yes, you should bring your whole family for the Brooklyn foodie stands and kid-friendly craft workshops. No, you will not have to pay a dime. And yes, we are still unrepentant bookworms.

Check out the line-up and reserve your spot forthwith!

Here are some highlights you can expect:

More than 60 writers, artists, activists, and performers reading across five spaces, including POROCHISTA KHAKPOUR, TASH AW, MANIL SURI, SAID SAYRAFIEZADEH, AMITAVA KUMAR, CATHY PARK HONG, JUSTIN TORRES, and others. In addition, and irresistibly, novelist ALEXANDER CHEE will be present – giving tarot card readings

A plethora of outrageously popular food vendors, including Bombay Sandwich Co., Brooklyn Soda Works, Brooklyn Wok Shop, Granola Lab, and Parantha Alley. And who can say no to pearl milk tea?

Dumpling-making sessions

A Make-a-Poem booth and DIY screen-printing and butterfly-making workshops

The 15th Asian American Literary Awards

A graphic novel workshop by X-Men writer Marjorie Liu

Sound installation and video art

A pop-up gallery of immigrant poster art

Audio recordings by NPR’s Latino U.S.A.

A vibrant after-party full of writers and artists
