A 74-minute compilation of 14 live and previously unreleased recordings spanning 10 years from the Roulette Concert Series in New York City with works by Billy Bang, Chris Cochrane, Anthony Coleman group, Guy Klucevsek, Ron Kuivila, Christian Marclay, Ikue Mori & Luli Shioi's Tohban Djan, Zeena Parkins, Wadada Leo Smith & Jeanne Lee & David Weinstein. (Plus artist bios & notes, Roulette histories and text by noted critics and writers). This disc provides a wide and selective overview of downtown New York composition, improvisation, tecnologies, performers, ensembles, small and large, diversity and development of styles and techniques, and a taste of the pluralism that fuels it all. The music was compiled to introduce the broad range of downtown activity, to reveal an underexposed side of non-commercial music, to document and distribute adventurous performances, and to encourage listeners toward the experience of live concerts.
