Fuad Al-Kibsi, one of Yemen’s most celebrated artists, is a renowned singer and oud (lute) player noted for preserving the ancient scholarly and oral traditional regional styles of Yemen. The program will include a solo performance by Al-Kibsi as well as a tribute to his extensive contributions to Yemeni music from musicians within the Yemeni community.
Born in Sana’a, he is the son of the famous poet and musician Abdallah Hashim Al-Kibsi, with whom he studied music. He also was influenced by such Yemeni singers as al-Sunaidar, al-Anisi and al-Harithi, and his work has frequently been featured in the annual New York Oud Festival presented by Brooklyn Maqam.
This event is a coproduction with Robert Browning Associates, Lotus Music & Dance, and Roulette present in association with Brooklyn Maqam and the Yemeni Cultural Center.
