Alexis Marcelo performs a solo piano set of music from his latest album Solo Piano, a record that stands as an intimate sonic self-portrait, grounded in identity and lineage.

As an Afro-Latino American born and raised in New York City, Alexis’s voice is inextricably bound to the lineage of Classical African American Music. On this record, improvisation serves not merely as a discipline, but as a living language—bringing together a broad exposure to culture and reimagining it in real time through a present, visionary expression on the piano.

Alexis Marcelo is a New York City-based pianist and improviser grounded in the lineage of Classical African American Music. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he studied with Dr. Yusef Lateef, Marcelo has built a distinguished career collaborating with key contemporary figures such as James Brandon Lewis and Justin Hicks. His debut release on Intakt Records, Solo Piano, captures his forward-thinking approach to the instrument, translating his rich cultural background into an urgent, spontaneous solo performance.
