Expanding upon previous work with Fulminate Trio, Aorta Ensemble, improvisational NYC collaborations, and solo guitar, Anders Nilsson takes this opportunity to present new music for a special Octet of musicians. Exploring relationships between expression – openness, structure – freedom through instrumental stories, this music draws from the Swing Era, Film Noir scores, Jazz-Rock, free music and beyond.

The Octet features:

Anders Nilsson – electric guitar, Charlie Burnham – violin, Michel Gentile – flute, alto flute, piccolo flute, Avram Fefer – bass clarinet, clarinet & tenor sax, Jeremy Danneman – alto sax, baritone sax, clarinet, Daniel Kelly – piano and synthesizer, Dave Ambrosio – bass, George Schuller – drums

Nilsson studied at Malmö Academy of Music and CCNY. Since moving to New York from Sweden in 2000 he has performed and/or recorded with AORTA, Fulminate Trio, Fay Victor Ensemble, ExPosed Blues Duo, Ken Filiano, Michael Evans, Sabir Mateen, Daniel Carter, Raoul Björkenheim, Tom Bruno, Ras Moshe, William Parker, Evan Gallagher, Eugene Chadbourne, Aaron Dugan, Paquito D’Rivera, theatre director Doris Mirescu, choreographer Akira Kasai and others. Most of these projects have dealt with improvisation to a large extent.

“Nilsson’s shimmering axe evokes a dimensional warp.” – Signal to Noise

“wonderful writing…special and unpredictable. You just never know where you will end up, except for great surprises.” – Bruce Gallanter/Downtown Music Gallery (from album review of “Janus”)
