In celebration of BIOMES, composer/bassoonist Katherine Young’s forthcoming Chaikin Records release, Young performs with electronicist Olivia Block, multi-instrumentalist Ben LaMar Gay, percussionist Brian Chase, and the piano-percussion quartet Yarn/Wire.
The program features Yarn/Wire performing Young’s immersive BIOMES 6.0, a world premiere by Block and Young using tape machines, and improvisations by Gay, Chase, and Young—three distinct voices in creative music.

Katherine Young creates electro-acoustic music and sonic art as a composer, installation artist, and improviser. As a bassoonist, she amplifies her instrument and employs a flexible electronics setup. Her work has been recognized by the Guggenheim Foundation, Fromm Foundation, the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, and others.
Olivia Block is a composer and performer based in Chicago who performs live experimental music in festivals and concerts around the world.
Drummer for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Brian Chase is an active experimental musician. He owns and operates Chaikin Records, a label dedicated to the musical language of the avant-garde.
Ben LaMar Gay is a composer and cornetist who moves sound, color, and space through folkloric filters to produce electro-acoustic collages.
Yarn/Wire is a new music quartet dedicated to the promotion of creative, meaningful live musical experiences in the US and abroad.
