Forward the Tuba

The inspiration to highlight Bob Stewart’s legacy is in response to his singularity in the “Tuba Diaspora” and the reverberations of his work throughout the diaspora. This concert is a culmination of music and artists that have opened their creative minds to new possibilities and paradigms for the tuba. Bob Stewart is a critical point of intersection from which so many others have branched. His work has inspired tubists to explore, question, and create, forwarding themselves to lead their own ensembles and helping to establish new tuba repertoire.

Featuring performances by Henry Threadgill’s renowned ensemble Very, Very Circus, Heavy Metal Duo, First Line Band, and Grammy nominated string quartet Publiquartet.

Ensembles will play the music of Bob Stewart, Curtis Stewart, Charles Mingus, Henry Threadgill, Lester Bowie, and Arthur Blythe.
