Catalytic Sound is a musician-owned cooperative founded in 2012 with the mission of empowering creative musicians by giving them greater control over the distribution and sale of their recordings. They established a centralized platform to make albums more accessible to fans and distribute catalogs from artist-run labels within the collective, with the goal of helping its artists increase their income through their recorded work.
Today, their focus is on fostering artistic sustainability for the 33 musicians in the collective by providing financial support to help them dedicate more time to their artistic practice. They develop innovative economic strategies to support artists in navigating the rapidly changing landscape of the music industry and aim to raise awareness about the collective’s creativity.
This spirit is brought to life through their annual Catalytic Sound Festival and their own streaming platform, which serves as a hub for the experimental and improvised music at the heart of our collective. The festival is a celebration of cutting-edge sound, featuring the avant-garde artists from our community who push sonic boundaries. Emphasizing collaboration and community, it offers a dynamic program of live performances, talks, and workshops. It is celebrated in multiple cities around the world and can be followed live through the Soundstream.
