Colored is a 45-minute dance celebrating the twisted beauty of blackness. The piece premiered in June 2017 at the Actors Fund Arts Center.
Recently named “New to Watch” by Trina Mannino of Dance Europe Magazine, Kyle Marshall Choreography (KMC) is a dance company that sees the moving body as a celebration of a beautiful form, a container of history and an igniter of social disruption. Director, Kyle Marshall, is a 2017 New Jersey Artist Fellowship recipient from the NJ State Council of the Arts. Organized in 2014, KMC has performed throughout the tri-state area at venues including Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, DanceNow Joe’s Pub, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Harlem Stage: EMoves, Movement Research at Judson Church, NYC Summerstage, Montclair Dance Festival, Jersey City Theater Center, Wassaic Arts Project and Conduit Dance (PDX). KMC has received residencies from DanceNow at Silo, Jamaica Performing Arts Center and CoLab Arts. Commissions have included: Dance on the Lawn Montclair Dance Festival, NJPAC, and Harlem Stage. The company’s next work, WAGE, will premiere at the Center for Performance Research in March 2018. Kyle Marshall Choreography conducts ongoing education outreaches at Bayonne High School and Trenton Central High School in New Jersey. The company has also guest taught at DeSales University, Muhlenberg College, Ailey/Fordham University, Montclair University and Basin Arts in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Kyle Marshall is a dancer and dance maker working in New York City and New Jersey. Marshall currently dances with doug elkins choreography etc. and is an apprentice for the Trisha Brown Dance Company. In the past, he has worked with Tiffany Mills Company, Ryan McNamara, Heidi Latsky, and was a founding member of 10 Hairy Legs.He organized Kyle Marshall Choreography in 2014 to help support his dance-making. Marshall’s work has been performed at venues including Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, DanceNow Joe’s Pub, NJPAC, NYC Summerstage, Montclair Dance Festival, Movement Research at Judson Church, Wassaic Arts Project, Triskelion Arts, and Dixon Place. He has also received residencies from the DanceNow at Silo, Jamaica Performing Arts Center, CoLab Arts and was the 2016 Dance on the Lawn Montclair Dance Festival Emerging Commissioned Choreographer. In 2017, Marshall was awarded the New Jersey Artist Fellowship in Choreography. Marshall graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a BFA in Dance.
Oluwadamilare (Dare) Ayorinde is a dancer and aspiring choreographer from New Jersey. He has worked with Colleen Thomas, Bill Young, and Netta Yerushalmy. He has also collaborated with Miriam Gabriel and Carlo Antonio Villanueva within their shared artistic ideas and apprentices with the Trisha Brown Dance Company.
Myssi Robinson is an artist from Richmond, VA. Along with Kyle Marshall Choreography, she currently explores with Baye and Asa, Katelyn Halpern, and Meagan Woods. Her fine art work has been shown at Crushed Muffins IV, BUMP through Harlem, the Jersey City Theater Center, and Bloomsbury Square Cafe. Myssi lives in Jersey City and dreams constantly of her forest escape.
Matt Clegg is a sound and video artist from Richmond, VA. Colored is his first collaboration with KMC.
