Shinkoyo Art Collective founders Matt Mehlan and Doron Sadja present the FREEMUSIC FUNHOUSE – an all ages, extraordinary extravaganza of wacky sounds, video clones, Frankenstein instruments, and guests galore! Matt and Doron will lead the group in a free multimedia improvisation, discuss why music is fun, free and easy, and teach all in attendance how to use everyday items to annoy your parents.
TODAYS ROULETTE KIDS EVENT IS FREE! Thanks to the Forefront Church for their generous donation.
Matthew Mehlan is a musician and composer who since 2003 has been performing and recording with his band Skeletons, “…one of the few contemporary bands who can legitimately be called ‘original’.”(Xlr8r). Skeletons have toured the world and released albums on Shinkoyo (the art and music group Matthew co-founded), Ghostly International, Tomlab, Sockets, and Crammed Discs. Matt has collaborated with hip hop group Nine 11 Thesaurus on their album “Ground Zero Generals,” is a member of the international “supergroup” Congotronics Vs. Rockers (with members of Konono No. 1, Kasai Allstars, Deerhoof, Wildbirds and Peacdrums, and Juana Molina), and been commissioned by the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra – which premiered his piece “Canvas” earlier this year.
Doron Sadja (1982) is a multimedia artist working primarily with multichannel spacialized sound – combining pristine electronics with lush romantic synthesizers, extreme frequencies, dense noise, and computer-enhanced acoustic instruments to create post-human, hyper-emotive sonic architecture. Doron has published music on 12k, ATAK, and Shinkoyo records, and has performed/shown video and installation work at Miami MOCA, D’amelio Terras Gallery, Cleveland Museum of Art, Issue Project Room, and Roulette amongst others. Sadja co-founded Shinkoyo Records and the West Nile experimental performance space in Brooklyn (RIP), and has curated various new music/sound festivals around NYC.
