Jessica Cook shares new material developed as part of her Roulette Commission.

The solo Breaks by Jessica Cook is a physical exploration of nonsense-making through fragmentation, the compression of sound, and movement scores. The work uses improvisation scores that splice, isolate, reference, and congeal macro and micro textures, paired with constructed sound costumes and “toys” created by the artist.

Jessica Cook (b. Kingston, NY) has worked as a Brooklyn based choreographer for over two decades. She combines movement, the physicality of sound making, and sculpture in creating absurdist and strained worlds. She has presented work in venues such as La MaMa Moves Festival, LMCC’s River to River Festival, Pageant, Roulette Intermedium, Movement Research at Judson Memorial Church, and others. As a dance artist she is currently working with Tess Dworman (The Con), Benjamin Akio Kimmitch (Allegra), visual artist Amy Beecher, Sam Kim, and director/dreamworker Amanda Lovejoy Street. She has been an artist-in-residence at The Chocolate Factory Theater, Movement Research, NY Live Arts Fresh Tracks, and MoMA PS1. She is a 2005 graduate of the SUNY Purchase Dance Conservatory and Pacific College of Health and Science.
