Kate Gentile “Find Letter X” triple CD release

Tuesday, October 31, 20238:00 pm

Kate Gentile’s band Find Letter X will play re-imagined versions of music from her new triple album “Find Letter X” out October 20th via Pi Recordings. Gentile has been working with this combination of Jeremy Viner, Matt Mitchell, and Kim Cass since the release of her previous album, Mannequins, in 2017, and has developed three books of compositions which comprise the three discs of the new album: Iridian Alphabet, Senselessness, and The Cosmic Brain. The music synthesizes new combinations of elements from multiple genres, including jazz, new music, and brutal death metal, through the lens of Gentile’s harmonic and rhythmic language.

From Pi Recordings:
“Find Letter X” is 41 pieces (3+ hours) of music spread across three discs…”Find Letter X” bursts with expressive, inventive ideas and dramatic arcs. Each disc contains a distinct thematic identity while simultaneously contributing to a larger narrative trajectory throughout the three volumes. Cross-connections abound between tracks on different discs, permeated with a Lynchian abstract logic and filled with motives and symbolism. The music’s wide range encompasses diverse sonics and instrumentation, varied forms, a vibrant feedback loop connecting improvisation and Gentile’s compositions, and a dialogue with myriad creative and musical forebears. Gentile’s personal aesthetic unifies the multifarious proceedings.
