The Michael Formanek Drome Trio—with Formanek, Chet Doxas, and Vinnie Sperrazza—will perform music from their 2022 Circular File Records release, Were We Where We Were, as well as new music composed by Formanek and added to the group’s repertoire in 2022. Pianist Angelica Sanchez will join for a set of improvisations based on a series of graphic scores that formed the basis of the notated compositions. In essence, the music will all stem from the same set of images; one is conventionally notated and improvised from, and the other will be improvisations only based on the graphic images.
