This workshop is part of Roulette’s annual Mixology Festival, which highlights novel approaches to technology in music and media arts, since 1991—supported in-part by mediaThe Foundation.

In this interactive workshop, NY-based architect and sound artist Femi Shonuga (sadnoise) introduces the world and history of Ciat-Lonbarde, Peter Blasser’s enigmatic line of analog synthesizers—which has cultivated a network of DIY circuit builders through open source circuit designs made out of paper.

Femi will build a “Lil Sidrassi” paper circuit from scratch, leading attendees through paper circuit and pcb basics. He will explain how to begin building paper circuits, as well as how to construct simple enclosures to house the completed instruments themselves. At the end of the workshop there will be a short performance using the circuit(s) built, alongside other Ciat-Lonbarde synths. Kits will be available for purchase to take home and start building! All experience levels welcome.

Femi Shonuga is an architect and sound artist from New York. Through sound art and composition, Femi utilizes various synthesis techniques and live coding languages to reveal the organic within electronics and technology. His work explores the intersections of sound and space though spatial audio and architectural design as an experimental practice. He’s most interested in generative systems, chance, and texture within sonic soundscapes. Femi’s architectural work explores indigenous ritual practice as a vessel for conversation between sound, space and interactions of the body. Femi has been performing as a solo experimental electronic improvisation artist since 2018 as sadnoise. Musical and Festival performances include Ende Tymes (2022, New York), Creative Code Festival (2020, New York), Waterworks Festival (2024), Slabfest (2024), amongst others.
