The Space Between trio formed in 1996 utilizing a unique combination of Just intonation accordion with shakuhachi and piano. The trio employs timbre and texture as their main structural units for composition and improvisation offsetting the discrepancy in tuning systems and turning it to a musical advantage. Their CDs include Between Waves for Sparkling Beatnik with saxophonist Jon Raskin and a new release on 482music with bassist Barre Phillips.
