The String Orchestra of Brooklyn celebrates the release of their first studio album, afterimage, with a performance of Chris Cerrone’s High Windows and Jacob Cooper’s Stabat Mater Dolorosa. The orchestra will be joined by the Argus Quartet and guests:

Jamie Jordan, soprano
Molly Netter, soprano
Kate Maroney, mezzo-soprano
Catherine Hedberg, mezzo-soprano

Founded in 2007, the String Orchestra of Brooklyn has become an integral part of New York City’s vibrant and diverse musical landscape, bringing together creative instrumentalists, composers, and like-minded organizations and ensembles to collaborate on adventurous musical projects and present them to the public at an affordable price. The String Orchestra of Brooklyn has given more than 90 concerts and presentations of over 400 new and existing works for string orchestra, full orchestra, and chamber ensemble. They have received praise for their admirable commitment to the music of our time by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, I Care if You Listen, The New Yorker, and more.

The Argus String Quartet is dedicated to reinvigorating the audience-performer relationship through innovative concerts and diverse repertoire – connecting with and building up a community of engaged listeners is at the core of the quartet’s mission. The quartet also believes that today’s ensembles can honor the storied chamber music traditions of our past while forging a new path forward. In that spirit, their repertoire includes not just staples of the chamber music canon but also a large number of pieces by living composers.

The release of this album is made possible, in part, by a grant from New Music USA.
