The Duke of Bachata! Raised in the rural area of the Dominican Republic, where he abandoned school and the farming life to pursue a career in music, Soriano, the seventh of 15 children, is bachata’s rising star. He croons tender, bittersweet ballads over feathery and rhythmic steel-string guitar melodies for a sound that feels at once modern and thoroughly old-world. Bachata beckons couples to rock side to side in accord, punctuating phrases with a tap of the foot and a pop of the hip.
