Continue your Carnival with the Queen of Forró!
Hailing from Fortaleza, the vivacious contralto Liliana Araújo belts out the jubilant, rustic tunes of Northeastern Brazil over a power trio of accordion, triangle, and the zabumba bass drum. Forró (fo-HO), the festive country music born in Brazil’s cowboy region, celebrates romance, broken hearts and the daily grind of herding cattle, tilling fields, and pounding manioc. It drives a swinging, bouncy, thigh-bumping two-step danced in pairs.
