John Zorn returns to Roulette to present his fabled and enduring work Cobra (first performed at Roulette’s Tribeca location in 1984) with a high-powered ensemble of the best and brightest musicians working today.
Cobra is a musical game system that creates a kaleidoscopic musical environment of improvisatory ensembles that are constantly shifting and morphing. Surprising and fun both visually and aurally, Cobra inspires musicians to interact, focus and play their best while allowing them the opportunity to make spontaneous decisions about the overall structure of the music.
This iteration of the piece features twelve musicians from the worlds of classical, jazz, rock, and improvised music—including members of Zorn’s inner circle, some surprising new faces, and some players who are new to the piece.
