nwa: a biomythographic rendering of x is a new work by Lester St. Louis—for his 2024-2025 Roulette Residency—in collaboration with Armand Hammer (Billy Woods, ELUCID), Shamar Watt a.k.a Bongowattz, and Chris Williams (as the duo HxH) to delve into real and synthesized histories of a figure carrying the flag pole of history on its shoulder.

An evening of music, movement, and video, making us all x – looking at ourselves, looking at time.

“Street corners filled with passerbys on route to everywhere, packed buses and dollar vans slugging, careening down the boulevard. Car stereos and bluetooth speakers blasting on the corner where a ghost, a monument, a man stands; firmly holding position. I don’t know who this is… but he’s always there, speaking soundless volumes.”

This work was commissioned by Roulette, made possible with funds provided by the Jerome Foundation. This performance is presented through Roulette’s GENERATE program, providing over 30 artists each year with in-depth creative and technical support.
