Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, AACM New York City Chapter, Inc. hosts a two-night celebration of their 60th anniversary to honor the legacy of co-founder Dr. Muhal Richard Abrams.
Night One Features:
-Panel Discussion: AACM member panelists discuss how the organization has impacted them as musicians and composers, featuring Amina Claudine Myers, Chico Freeman, Roscoe Mitchell, Adegoke Steve Colson, Iqua Colson, and Thurman Barker. Moderated by George E. Lewis.
-A showcase of Roscoe Mitchell’s paintings for sale.
-The Chico Freeman Quintet featuring Chico Freeman on saxophone, Amina Claudine Myers on piano, Kenny Davis on bass, Yoron Israel on drums, and Reto Weber on exotic percussions (i.e. Djembe, Hang, Ghatam).
-Amina Claudine Myers’s performance of a special gospel musical tribute on piano to AACM members Leonard E. Jones and Lester Helmar Lashley.
Night Two Features:
