For his Roulette commission (and Roulette debut as a composer and bandleader), Adam O’Farrill will be presenting two new works, “Flatbush Blue” and “The Man from the Sea,” written to be performed by his family. “Flatbush Blue” is a suite for solo piano, to be performed by Adam’s mother, Alison Deane. “The Man from the Sea” is a collection of songs inspired by paintings by the Belgian surrealist artist, René Magritte. These songs will be performed by the O’Farrill Family Band, featuring Adam on trumpet, Arturo O’Farrill on piano, Liany Mateo on bass, and Zack O’Farrill on drums. For this special performance, the band will be augmented by guitarist Grey Mcmurray and violinist/violist Ledah Finck.
“There’s little disagreement that he is among the leading trumpeters in jazz — and perhaps the music’s next major improviser.” –The New York Times
A livestream will be available free of charge at 8pm on the day of the performance and archived for future viewing. Watch below or on YouTube.
