Cecilia Lopez is a 2019 Resident Artist
For the first concert of her 2019 Roulette residency, artist/composer Cecilia Lopez will present a two-part program, which explores different scales of sound spatiality in Roulette’s theater. The program will begin with Dos (tres) written for brass trio and electronics. By conjuring a very subtle atmosphere and focusing on the directionality of sound, timbre, and specific frequency material, this piece investigates the outcome of a very intimate encounter between instruments/instrument players.
The second part of the evening will feature Bifurcations, the first collaboration between Lopez and composer and artist Aki Onda. Sharing a trajectory based on the use of acoustic feedback and the exploration of space through amplification, this concert is an opportunity for both artists to join forces and present a duo feedback composition. Lopez will be playing her handmade instruments, weaved from speaker-wire; Onda will wield multiple amplifiers and his custom lighting system which responds to the aural environment, expanding the perception of space visually.

Cecilia Lopez is a composer, musician and multimedia artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina currently based in New York. Her work explores perception and transmission processes focusing on the relationship between sound technologies and listening practices. She works across the media of performance, sound, installation and the creation of sound devices and systems. She studied composition with Carmen Baliero and Gustavo Ribicic. She holds an MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College and an MA from Wesleyan University in composition (2016). Her work has been performed and exhibited at Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (AR), Center for Contemporary Arts (Vilnius, Lithuania), Festival Internacional Tsonami de Buenos Aires (Argentina), Roulette Intermedium, Issue Project Room, Floating Points Festival , Ostrava Days Festival 2011 (Ostrava, Czech Republic), MATA Festival 2012 (NY), Experimental Intermedia (NY), Fridman Galley (NY), Kunstnernes Hus (Oslo, Norway) and Ende Tymes Festival (NY), Festival Punto de Encuentro organized by the Asociación de Música Electroacústica de España (Spain), and the XIV Cuenca Biennial, among others. She was a Civitella Ranieri fellow in 2015 and has participated in various residency programs such as Atlantic Center for the Arts, Ostrava Days Institute, Harvestworks, and Rupert Residency. She has collaborated in projects with Carmen Baliero, Carrie Schneider and Lars Laumann, among others.
Aki Onda is a composer, performer, visual artist, and curator. Onda was born in Japan and currently resides in New York. He is particularly known for his Cassette Memories—works compiled from a “sound diary” of field-recordings collected by using the cassette Walkman over a span of last quarter-century. He creates compositions, performances, and visual artworks from those sound memories. Onda often works in interdisciplinary fields and collaborates with filmmakers, visual artists, and choreographers. His on-going projects include Nervous Magic Lantern with Ken Jacobs, improvisation trio with Michael Snow and Alan Licht, visual-sound installation/performance with Raha Raissnia, and site-specific happening with Akio Suzuki. Onda has performed at The Kitchen, MoMA, P.S.1 MOMA, ISSUE Project Room, Time-Based Art Festival, Images Festival (Toronto), ICA (London), Louvre Museum, Palais de Tokyo, Fondation Cartier (Paris), Argos, Bozar, Wiels (Brussels), International Film Festival Rotterdam, Nam June Paik Art Center (Seoul), Sound Live Tokyo (Tokyo) and many others. Onda is also active as a curator. He is a director of TPAM (Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama) in Japan, and organized major performances and exhibitions throughout North America.
Forbes Graham is a trumpet player, electronic musician, and composer living and working in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the founder of the Rock Flint Artists Retreat and has appeared at numerous festivals including High Zero, Full Force, and Vision. New York-based trumpeter and improviser Joe Moffett approaches his work with a keen interest in unconventional sounds and forms, collective improvisation, and the intersection of action and stillness. He is a co-founder of several projects, including ambient improv trio Earth Tongues, in addition to performing frequently as a solo artist. He has also appeared with a number of artists and projects including Yoshi Wada, Joe Morris, and Tredici Bacci. His material appears on Neither/Nor, Underwolf, Eh?, NotTwo, and Prom Night Records. He will release his first solo studio album on Tubapede Records in fall 2018.

Christopher McIntyre leads a varied career in music as a performer, composer, and curator/producer. He interprets and improvises on trombone and synthesizer and composes for TILT Brass (Co-Founder and Director), UllU, Ne(x)tworks, and choreographer Yoshiko Chuma. McIntyre is a member of Either/Or, has performed with ensembles including SEM, Talea, The Knights, Musikfabrik, the Tri-Centric, and Flexible Orchestras, and in composer-led projects of Zeena Parkins, Anthony Braxton, Anthony Coleman, Fast Forward, Elliott Sharp, Daniel Goode, Nate Wooley,
David Behrman, James Fei, and John King. He had the honor of performing with Merce Cunningham Dance Co. during its Legacy Tour in 2011 (Bard, Dartmouth, and Kennedy Center.) He has recorded for Tzadik, New World, XI, Edition Modern, POTTR, Mode, and Non-Site Records. Curatorial work includes projects at The Kitchen, ISSUE Project Room, Guggenheim Museum, and The Stone, and Artistic Director of the MATA Festival (2007–10).
