Roulette is thrilled to premiere four brand new quintets by Henry Threadgill during our Fall 2014 season. These quintets feature four members of Zooid: Liberty Ellman (Ceroepic), Jose Davila (Unoepic), Elliot Kavee (Dosepic), Christopher Hoffman (Tresepic). Each quintet focuses extensively on the soloist and the featured instrument.
Each night there will be a short opening piece, like an overture, to precede the quintets. The first night is the short, “In for a penny, in for a pound.” The second night is the short “Off the prompt box.”
Mr. Threadgill states that “One important factor for me in writing these pieces was to seek another process which puts each featured soloist in the directorial position.”
Note: These works led to Threadgill receiving the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for music.
