The composer presents four works for his Alto Quartet: Study II [Scream], Study III [Saliva], Study IV [Flutter] and Horizontal-Vertical with musician Jeff Hudgins, Randy McKean, Jackson Moore on alto saxophones and the composer on alto saxophone and live electronics. The Quartet’s unique techniques include using altered reeds which only produce colored noise and excessive saliva to induce rhythms and sweeping overtones. Also on the program, Faktura, pairs two alto saxophones with background noise of idling electronic components (filters, amplifiers with nothing plugged in) as a third instrument. Fei was born in Taipei and moved to the United States in 1992 and has since worked extensively with Anthony Braxon and Alvin Lucier.
