Phoebe Legere is a composer, lyricist, and transmedia artist. She graduated from Vassar College, was the resident composer for the Wooster Group, studied with John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet, was signed to Sony Records, opened for David Bowie on his National Tour, received a NYSCA grant, wrote the book, music and lyrics for seven musicals, has sung with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, collaborated with the Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell, Larry Rivers, Allen Ginsberg, Hunter Thompson, Don Cherry, Brian Eno, Bo Bo Shaw, Ikue Morie, Nana Vascolenos, Jack Smith,
Joakim Lartey, Jim Staley, Morgan Powell, Eric Mandat and Leo Abrahams, has appeared on National Public Radio, CBS Sunday Morning, PBS’s City Arts and Charlie Rose, is in the Nickelodeon series,”The Naked Brothers Band,” and is head writer and host for Roulette TV, a show about experimental art and music. She is writing and scoring the music for “Sex, Death and Ukuleles, a futuristic musical that will open March 6th at the Theater for the New City. She records for Einstein Records and Mercury Records.

Inspired by an IBM software that moves information across business processes and facilitates cross organizational collaboration, Legere’s newest work, Suite, will cycle through compositional strategies, from Serialism to Jazz to Romanticism to to Improvisation. Legere will sing from her autobiography and conduct a string ensemble from piano, laptop and accordion.
