Three musicians- Jeff Arnal, percussion; Gordon Beeferman, electric piano; and Seth Misterka, alto sax-and three choreographers-Estelle Woodard, Alison Robinson, and Corrina Kalisz- form the collaborative Rara Avis Sextet. This ensemble explores a collective dynamic and vocabulary rooted in improvisation ranging from the fiercely complex to the evocatively lyrical. The musicians have gained as a trio for their superior technical abilities, imaginative powers, inventive solos and richly thematic frameworks.
