Bang on a Can All-Stars’ guitarist Mark Stewart performs a world-premiere multi-movement work written by Banglewood composer Erich Barganier, as well as a set of original compositions with multi- instrumentalist Rob Schwimmer as Polygraph Lounge.
Barganier teams up with Stewart to present Liberation Through Hearing During the Existence Between, a brand-new tour de force for electric guitar and audience participation in several movements. This new composition takes its inspiration from the artistic manifestos of André Breton and The Tibetan Book of the Dead, while blending virtuosic guitar performance with Stewart’s signature wit into a genre-defying work that promises to keep the audience on their toes.
After a brief intermission, Stewart returns to the stage alongside Rob Schwimmer and a special guest as Polygraph Lounge. Plundering the common cultural currency of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Polygraph Lounge is a virtuosic duo specializing in musical hilarity/anarchy in the Spike Jones tradition. Described by Peter Schickele, the discoverer of P.D.Q. Bach, as a group that blends “mind-numbing virtuosity and rib-tickling wit,“ Polygraph Lounge promises to take music and words apart and put them back together in astonishing and hilariously unexpected ways.
A livestream will be available free of charge at 8pm on the day of the performance and archived for future viewing. Watch below or on YouTube.
