Isaiah Collier leads his new generation quartet with pianist Jordan Williams and rhythm section of bassist Luke Stewart and drummer Tcheser Holmes. SPARKS is a new collaboration celebrating their record release on Mahakala, featuring pianist Eri Yamamto, saxophonist Chad Fowler, bassist William Parker, and drummer Steve Hirsh. Together SPARKS performs spontaneous folk music unique to their upbringing. With Diaspora Meets AfroHORN, trumpeter Ahmed Abdullah and multi-percussionist Francisco Mora Catlett combine the traditions of their two groups while connecting musically and spiritually. Together they draw from shared experiences as Sun Ra Arkestra members. Long-time collaborators pianist Angelica Sanchez and bassist Michael Formanek return to Vision, joined by premier drummer Hamid Drake for a special trio performance. SoundNoiseFUNK, Fay Victor’s avant-garde dance unit, features percussionist Reggie Nicholson, soprano saxophonist Sam Newsome, guitarist Joe Morris, and multi-disciplinary artist Eddy Kwon. With their world premiere, “WORK in these TIMES,” they will explore sonic terrain while keeping an organic groove.

Founded in 1996, the Vision Festival is New York City’s longest continuously running jazz festival. Now in its 26th year, this festival of music, dance, poetry, and visual art is heralded as “one of New York’s most essential art events” (New York Times). Performances feature legendary and emerging stars representing the free jazz, experimental, and avant-garde communities and include Lifetime Achievement honorees like Amina Claudine Myers, Andrew Cyrille, Dave Burrell, Peter Brötzmann, and Milford Graves. This year, we honor Wadada Leo Smith and Oliver Lake.
