[DANCEROULETTE] Maggie Bennett, Benjamin Kimitch, Marilyn Maywald

DanceRoulette gathers the intriguing artists in experimental and emerging new practices in dance and choreography for a week-long performance series. The theater and the bodies become the new sites of a work that began in May 2013 in four distinct spaces: the archeological ruins of Teotihuacan; MUAC, the contemporary art museum in Mexico City; a library, which they considered “virtual space”; and a gallery/contemporary art scene.

A new work-in-process that excavates emotions out of rigorous, calculated structures, based in ongoing research on Buddhist imagery; performed by Julie McMillan.

Marilyn Maywald
Solo Study #4
Motion as engine for memory and imagination. Dancer as Maker.

Maggie Bennett is an artist whose work includes architectural interventions, objects, inter-disciplinary collaboration, and choreographic and improvisational performance practices. She graduated from Connecticut College in 2005, and has presented work in and performed for other artists in New York City since 2005. A first year MFA student in Yale’s sculpture program, Bennett has had residencies at New York Live Arts/ Dance Theater Workshop, Pieter, No Idea Festival, Ritual and Research, the New Museum, Movement Research, AUNTS, facade/fasad.

Benjamin Kimitch is an artist living in Brooklyn, NY. Kimitch’s work and process as a choreographer has been supported in New York by Danspace Project, 92nd Street Y’s Fridays at Noon series (also as curator), Movement Research at Judson Church, and AUNTS. He holds a BFA in Dance from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, and has received additional intensive training at Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance and Shanghai Theater Academy Traditional Peking Opera School. Kimitch works at New York Live Arts as Producing Associate/Assistant to the Artistic Director, and worked in the Programming Department at Dance Theater Workshop from 2008-2011.

Marilyn Maywald is originally from Nashville, TN and graduated from Arizona State University. In New York she has worked with Beth Gill, Melanie Maar, Vicky Shick, Katie Workum, Maggie Bennett, Melinda Ring, Steven Reker, Milka Djordjevich/Chris Peck, and Yin Mei. Maywald has performed her own solo dances in Arizona, Seattle, and in NYC at MR@Judson, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and Danspace Project’s Food for Thought. She has been a backup dancer for Reggie Watts, Naomi & Wynona Judd, and Shania Twain.

Gabriel Rivera, a maker of space, performance, objects, imagery, possibilities, is based in New York, California, and Mexico City. He has presented works at Pratt Institute, FACADE/FASAD, Dixon Place, MoMA PS1, Pieter PASD, AUNTS, Center for Performance Research, Salomon Contemporary, and New Museum.
